Ogo Onyeji’s Family Memory
2010
Story:
Growing up in a female-dominated family really impacted my life and artistic evolution. As the oldest daughter(the "ada" in igbo culture), I took on a caregiving role, which exposed me to the challenges females face in interaction with the world and themselves. My art reflects these experiences, celebrating women's strength and resilience. I make female centric art to challenge negative narratives and inspire hope, positivity, and growth. My art is a tool for empowerment, encouraging women to recognize their innate strengths. While I use women as my subject of creativity, the issues I adress are global problems not limited to gender or race. In coming years, I hope to create a visual detox on a global scale.
