LaDasia Bryant’s Family Memories

Between 1992-2005

Story:
Recently, when learning about the history of black women creatives, I see a lot of erasure of, if not them altogether, their lineage. I had this overwhelming grief for that and created a piece to document proof I am alive, “Proof I am Alive.” On my exploration go black girlhood/ womanhood and what it means to be ME as a black girl without the definitions given to me. I thought this piece was relevant to submit as it is a documentation of a life, part of this piece is a photo box, I wanted to document my existence and the existence of my family. I have uploaded a variety of pictures of me with my mom, my brother, my mother, and youth events I attended as a child. All are included in the top of the box, and the bottom is an altar of items collected throughout the years from teachers and experiences.
